Ecosystem restoration impact
Impact Overview
With the unwavering support of our partners and supporters, we work to restore ecosystem balance.
Together, we plant trees to bring degraded ecosystems back to life, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve water and soil, and revitalize coastal areas. These efforts contribute to global sustainability and climate action, helping to build a healthier planet for all living beings.
By restoring ecosystem through planting trees, we contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
How Planting Trees Impacts the Ecosystem
Water Conservation
Helping drought and water scarcity prone areas, we plant water-conserving trees near springs, wells, rivers, and other key water sources. These trees help retain groundwater, restore depleted sources, and ensure long-term water availability.
Our tree-planting also supports the sacred seven springs of the Citarum River in West Java and others within local communities. Since 2008, we have also restored 68 watersheds across Java and Bali, including Citarum, Cisadane, Citanduy, Bengawan Solo, Serayu, Progo, and Sanghianggede.
“At least ten families in my neighborhood lacked clean water for a long time. When the spring on my land flowed stronger, I let them collect water as much as they needed. I’m grateful the trees I have planted help restore the spring. It’s a blessing for us all.”

Soil Conservation
We restore degraded lands in both urban and rural affected by land conversion, industrial activity, and overexploitation by planting trees that improve soil quality, moisture, and fertility. These efforts help combat erosion, reduce disaster risks, and enhance land productivity for healthier trees and crops.
Our efforts include restoring urban industrial estates, poorly managed vegetable farms, watersheds, and barren community areas, covering over 10.500 hectares and counting.
Coastal Restoration
Since 2021, we have restored coastal ecosystem together with our partners by planting mangroves and coastal pine trees to expand green belts, strengthening natural barriers against tidal surges and coastal erosion.
Our mangrove planting also supports greenbelt expansion along Pati coastline and mangrove forest restoration in Cilacap, Central Java, an area massively deforested in the 1990s.
Carbon Sequestration
Aligning the global mission to fight climate change, our tree planting programs also focus on sequestering carbon, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and mitigating global warming.
By restoring mangrove and terrestrial forests both in rural and urban areas, we help to enhance green and blue carbon sequestration, contributing to stabilize the climate.
Each Tree You Plant
helps address environmental challenges, removes an average of 219 kg of CO2, and helps fight climate change.
Planting Trees, Preserving Water Sources
Facing frequent water scarcity, families in Kalirejo Village, Kebumen, Central Java had long struggled to access clean water. But when tree-planting began in 2019, hope turned into reality. A water spring began to flow abundantly – thanks to the skilled hands of a local farmer dedicated to growing trees.
